Fostering an innovation mindset
Dimension Data is South Africa’s leading IT services provider. Over a period of 5-years we worked with the leadership team, helping then to effectively and creatively communicate their annual strategy updates to the wider Dimension Data team.
Challenge
Communication of strategy can certainly pose a challenge to the leadership of an organisation; more problematic still is achieving widespread buy-in of the strategy and motivating implementation of the action plans.
Dimension Data’s challenge was to make the content on the strategy ‘come alive’ for their operational teams. They wanted the communication of the strategy at their annual conference to be seen as the main event and the highlight of every employees’ year.
Solution
We partnered with Motif Studios - a Cape Town-based animation studio - to create a vision for the future of Dimension Data that nobody in the audience will ever forget.
We turned the entire conference venue into an immersive audiovisual experience by creating a massive custom-build, wrap-around stage onto which we mounted a five-meter long Polystyrene spacecraft, which was used as the primary prop for a 5-minute long projection mapping event.
Result: Experiential strategy communication
“Strategies must be felt to be vivid, personally meaningful, and compelling by the members of the organization who must adopt new behaviours in order to execute them. And thinking won’t get you there”. - Jeanne Liedtka an American strategist and professor of business administration at the Darden School of the University of Virginia.
Our solution brought the Dimension Data strategy to life for everyone and created a culture of future optimism the business was needing during their time of transformation.
Feedback from Dimension Data’s CEO (at that time) Jeremy Ord was that ‘he could not have felt prouder to be leading such a dynamic and forward-thinking organization as a result of how we were able to package and sell their future vision.’
